WinIE Tires Me

Get Firefox Because this site serves my whims, I can pretty much do as I please. Given that, I am tired of having to fix all of my perfectly fine CSS/XHTML to work in the broken browser that is Microsoft Internet Explorer, so all users of that abomination/disservice of a product will see a wonderful graphical link to Mozilla’s Firefox browser at the top of my index.php page.

Why? Well, for starters, Internet Explorer includes the following major screw-ups:

  • Huge security vulnerabilities with regards to ActiveX
  • Newly discovered JPEG buffer overflow problems, and other unknown issues that can compromise your computer just by viewing web sites
  • Huge problems with its implementation of the CSS 2 specification (my biggest qualm)
  • It cannot handle 8-bit transparencies in PNGs
  • It cannot scale fonts (using the browser resize functions) that are declared using pixels
  • Microsoft thinks that being able to log onto another computer via RDP in a browser (as opposed to a stand-alone application) is more important than fixing the above problems
  • The only upgrades to IE will come in future versions of the Windows operating system (i.e. Longhorn), which means that there will never be fixes for IE v5, v5.5, or v6. Worst. Disservice. Ever.

Enough, I say. Switch now or see the relatively large graphic informing you of your lemming nature, your mind blindly following Microsoft and believing all the crap they spew out of Redmond. (Of course, as a good web designer, I will still ensure my site works with IE, regardless of the number of complaints you hear.)

[update] Added more problems with WinIE.

[update] Oh, and because Tom says so!
