I’m back!
Whew. What a wonderful trip! Lake Powell turned out to be as fun (or more so) than last year. Wakeboarding, tubing, hiking, volleyball, Rummy, Hearts, Balderdash, frisbee, Seadoos, and lots of good food. Being back in Reno with school ready to start is a pretty severe and humbling dose of reality, the adjustment requiring many attempts to focus on next week’s activities as opposed to last week’s.
Being disconnected from the world really is contentment, although the first day or so is a bit unnerving. No internet, cell phone, television, news, instant messages, email and the likes gives one a greater appreciation for life in the slow lane—a life filled with the pleasure of other things. I have never felt more free than when I am at Lake Powell, untied and unburdened from the technological necessities of normal everyday life. Even not having to drive around in my car really gave some relief, as I noticed upon starting my VW Jetta yesterday for the first time in a week. It is truly lamentable that such vacations cannot happen more frequently throughout the year.
I will have new time-lapse iSight video of the drive down to Las Vegas (netted $50 at blackjack) and Lake Powell plus a little clip of the house boat going doing the channel to the wonderful beach spot in Cane Creek Canyon near Cookie Jar Butte. What a view! Expect a photo gallery some time in the next week as well, showing off our sundry exploits.
[update] I edited this post for reasons of posterity.
